The Irish Setter is an excellent companion but also a great hunter. He dreams about hunting and tracking and long walks in the forest with his owner. His natural aptitudes make him at ease whatever the climate or environment. He never hesitates to go in the water, even when it is cold. He has a good nose for scent and is fast at tracking.
Don’t forget that your dog will only hunt for a few months per year. The rest of the time, he must be a good companion, appreciated by your family members, neighbours and friends.
The more you will understand his behaviour, the easier it will be for you to team up with him for hunting and appreciate one of the most important qualities of a good hunting dog : collaboration.
